Chamber Music New Zealand opens its 2025 season with a tour by international pianist Piers Lane, who will perform Frederic Chopin’s complete nocturnes.

Lane’s career has included the world’s most iconic concert halls, and his artistry is renowned for its depth nuance and expressive power, particularly in the Romantic repertoire.

Chopin’s 21 nocturnes are among the most important achievements of Romantic piano music, reflecting the moods and mysteries of the night — from contemplative stillness to drama.

Whether drawn to the meditative charm of the Nocturne in E minor or the luminous beauty of the Nocturne in C minor, audiences will experience the complete cycle as an integrated journey.

"I seek out very deliberately all the poignancy, all the subtle nuances of expression and extraordinary range of emotion they contain and aim at a very particular ‘Chopin’ tone, a sound that sings, but with a certain classical purity," Lane said, in a statement.

The tour is the largest of CMNZ’s 2025 season, reaching 13 centres across Aotearoa, including a concert at Dunedin’s Glenroy Auditorium on Thursday, March 13, from 7.30pm at the Glenroy Auditorium. — APL
