Some people out for a run tomorrow should make a colourful sight.
After Central Otago’s first Rainbow Run starts at 11am, runners and walkers will be showered with coloured powder as they race around a 5km track at Molyneux Park.
Organisers suggest competitors wear white to receive the full effect of being doused with the blue, yellow, green, purple, and pink powders which will land on them around the course.
The colourful run was inspired by India’s Holi festival.
Sport Central regional co-ordinator Bill Godsall said the group used the idea to give the district an athletic event which was "a bit more novel".
"It is good to get a more recreational event to get people out and about. It’s something parents can take their kids on."
The event attracted 300 entries, he said.
The powder is made of a non-toxic cornflour-based mixture.
"The cleanup isn’t too bad. It cleans off pretty easily," Mr Godsall said.
