Q Tell us a bit about yourself.
I was born in Whangarei. I’ve been down in Alexandra since January 2013. I went to university at Canterbury and did electrical engineering there. I’m an electrical engineer at the Roxburgh Dam here. Keeping an eye on things, making sure everything’s going well. In my spare time I home brew, play poker.
Q Are you worried about what you’ll be made to do in this competition?
A little bit. I’ve had hints of what we might be doing. Might be dressing cakes, maybe identifying some female products like perfume and other stuff I shouldn’t know about.
Q How do you think you’ll do at that?
I might be all right. I’ve done a little bit of research. I did flat with three females at uni, but that was a while ago.
Q How did you get involved in this?
Jennifer McLean, she’s organising it, she’s my workmate. They were looking for a few people so I decided I might as well.
Q Have you done anything like this before?
No, the closest would be a curry-eating competition. But you know, that’s sort of one off. You just eat curry. I did terribly. My nose started bleeding. My nose is in a good condition now though.
Q Do you know any of the competitors?
No, only my team-mate, that’s about it. I haven’t lined up the competition.
Q Would your friends describe you as a good bloke?
I don’t know. Probably. Yes. There are some stories they could tell, but we won’t go into detail.
Q What kind of things do you hope they won’t make you do?
What am I not good at? Physical stuff. If I have to skin something maybe, or butcher something, I won’t be very good at that. Not really into dirty stuff.
Q What do you think you will be good at?
I’ll be pretty good at general knowledge. It’s really hard because I don’t know what they’re going to do. I’ll do all right if there are music questions. I know a lot of girly songs if that’s what it comes down to.
Q Are you someone who’s easily embarrassed?
Not really, no. So I’m not afraid. I think it’s within my comfort zone, but it’s hard to tell, but I’m comfortable doing things in front of people.
Q On a scale of 1 to Richie McCaw, how much of a top bloke are you?
Maybe an 8. Eight’s pretty good.
Q Ideal Friday night out?
My normal Friday night out is at the Top Pub [The Stadium Tavern Alexandra] playing poker.
● Battle of the Blokes is at 7.30pm tonight in the Alexandra Community Hall. Tickets are $20 for a single or $100 for a table of six. Tickets can be bought from the Alexandra Four Square.
