
Otago’s rowers need to lift another gear as the A finals begin this morning at the Maadi Cup regatta on Lake Karapiro.
Wakatipu’s Harry Lightfoot and Patrick Spillane, of St Kevin’s, have qualified for the boys under-18 single sculls A final. Lightfoot then links with Sebastian Watson, and Spillane joins Kouper Lynch in the boys under-18 double sculls A final.
Otago Boys’ duo Ben Thompson and Henry Lucas and Waitaki Boys’ Lachlan Wright and Ned Newlands-Carter have also qualified for the final.
Wakatipu’s quad of Liberty Hide, Cinnamon Williams, Posie Manser, Jesse Bates and Bella Noton booked their spot in the girls under-18 novice coxed quad sculls A final. The Queenstown school looks to be strong across the board.
Zebbie Jarvis, Liam Feeley, Liam Major and Flynn Weber will race in the boys under-18 novice coxed quad sculls.
The Waitaki Boys’ crew of Ike Newlands-Carter, Cash Paterson, Shaun Lucey, Samson Isbister and George Smith will also race in that final.
Lucy Clark and Amy Paterson (Wakatipu) are also in the girls under-17 double sculls A final, as are Bella Breen and Ruby Smith (Dunstan), and Georgia Graham and Bonnie Turner (St Hilda’s).
Ciara Paterson (Columba) qualified for the girls under-18 single sculls A final and Sophie Spittle and Hanna Strachan (Waitaki Girls’) for the girls under-18 coxless pair oars A final.
