Otago are on the hunt for runs as they head into the penultimate day of their Plunket Shield clash.

They were 81 for four at stumps and trailed by 330 runs against Northern Districts at the University Oval yesterday.

After batting for the majority of the opening two days, Northern declared at 411 for seven yesterday afternoon.

Earlier, Northern wrapped up the opening day at 295 for four.

Joe Carter finished not out for 129 and Ben Pomare was on 46 when stumps were called.

Action did not get under way until after 2pm yesterday due to multiple ground delays as a result of the weather.

But when they resumed, Pomare was quickly caught behind without adding to his tally.

Carter added another nine runs before he was caught by Parkes for 138 in a brilliant knock.

Scott Kuggeleijn added an unbeaten 53 and former Otago player and Black Cap Neil Wagner notched an unbeaten 25.

That took Northern through to 411 for seven when they declared.

Andrew Hazeldine finished with figures of three for 115, Dean Foxcroft nabbed two for 59 and Toby Hart — making his first-class debut — and Matt Bacon took one a piece.

Otago openers Jacob Cumming and Dale Phillips looked to get on the move early.

But Cumming was caught for six and Otago found themselves 10 for one in the third over.

Otago captain Luke Georgeson and Phillips kept things moving and started to lay a good platform.

But Wagner then took the scalp of Georgeson, who departed for 34.

Phillips went soon after to Raval and his replacement Thorn Parkes went for one to leave Otago 76 for four.

The game was called early due to bad light.

The Auckland Aces lead the Central Stags by 27 with four wickets in hand in Auckland.

Auckland posted 184 in their first innings, lead by Will O’Donnell’s 71 runs. Jayden Lennox took four for 60.

Stags posted 219 in reply. Dane Cleaver (70), and Curtis Heaphy (51) were the best with the bat.

Auckland were 62 for six at stumps yesterday.

Wellington leads Canterbury by 32 runs with 10 wickets remaining in Wellington.

The home team posted 269 in their first innings, led by opener Sam Mycock’s 73. Canterbury were all out for 274 in reply.

Returning Black Cap Ish Sodhi, playing his 100th first-class game, making the biggest dent with 70 runs.

Liam Dudding took four for 75. Wellington will resume on 37 runs this morning.
