Grants Braes concluded its season with a major scalp and three valuable points with a hard-fought 1-0 win over Roslyn Wakari at Ellis Park on Saturday.
In an entertaining match that could easily have been a high-scoring draw, both teams appeared to leave their shooting boots at home.
With spectators and the referee checking watches for fulltime, Grants Braes attacked down the left flank, with Mitch Adams attacking the penalty area and shaping for a shot of goal. A disguised pass by Adams connected with a well-timed reverse-angle run against the grain by Shannon Cox.
The Braes player received possession with a deft first touch and finished with an accurate shot into the right-hand goal corner to claim the winning goal.
Braes coach Alan Laidler was a happy man after the match.
"From the outset one team was going to win as both teams played with attacking mindsets," he said.
In the other premier league match, University reinforced its improving league status with a 3-1 away win over Queenstown Rovers.
Queenstown's Sean Sutton opened the scoring on two minutes and Yannick Wouts equalised just three minutes later. Second-half sub Will Turner nudged the students ahead with 15 minutes to go before Brazilian Gui Melo smoked four Rovers defenders in a mazy dribble from halfway to lay on Wouts' second.
