Twelve goals were scored in the round, and Roslyn Wakari, Dunedin Technical and Caversham all kept clean sheets.
Roslyn Wakari almost scored straight from the kick off at Ellis Park when Blair Bates intercepted a defensive pass in the University defence, but his shot shaved the post, much to the relief of keeper James Berry.
The shock woke up the students, and they competed well for half an hour. Jeremy Foy's pace posed a danger to Roslyn, and initially there was good support from Matt Webb and Elliott Martin.
But University tended to self destruct with crass mistakes, and Roslyn striker Bates opened the scoring after 29 minutes with a cool finish, after driving through a large gap.
Four minutes later, the harrying pace of Isaac Nicholson exposed the student defence, and he finished strongly with a booming shot.
At halftime, trailing 2-0, University was urged on by captain Henry Flood, and the students again looked the part, with some neat set up play, but few shots troubled Roslyn keeper Tom Stevens.
He was well protected by Tyrell Barringer Tairi and Patrick Ebanda, who also delivered quality passes forward.
Roslyn's front trio of Bates, Nicholson and Rupert Mark worked hard, interchanged positions and challenged any over elaborate play by University to win valuable possession.
Midfield powerhouse Cam Attwood scored twice in the second half and Mark nailed a third. The final goal drew a ripple of applause as Mark flew up the right and drilled over a low cross. Bates dummied over the ball, and Attwood shot through a dispirited student defence for the fifth and final goal.
Roslyn coach Colin Thom praised his team, especially young defender Nathan Wilkie in his FPL debut, and in an unfamiliar role. Bates got Roslyn's player of the day award, for his unrelenting energy and commitment.
University coach Darren Hart agreed with post match comments that his side was not five goals worse than Roslyn, and showed lots of skill.
At Tahuna Park, Northern frustrated Dunedin Technical in the first half, but a second half deluge gave Technical its 4-0 win to climb into second place.
Taylor McCormack opened the scoring after 50 minutes, Tim McLennan made it 2-0 after an hour, player coach Aaron Burgess scored in the 72nd minute, and McCormack wrapped up the result 10 minutes from time.
Northern's best opportunity came in the first half when Andrew Welford had a one on one opportunity but the Technical goalkeeper was up to the task.
A Tom Jackson header from a Seamus Ryder free kick opened the scoring for Caversham at Sunnyvale, earning a 1-0 lead over Green Island.
Jackson then turned provider, firstly with a cross from which Tore Waechter scored, then a long throw to set up Michael Hoggan and clinch the 3-0 win.
The win keeps Caversham unbeaten at the top of the FPL table with 19 points from seven games, followed by Dunedin Technical with 15 points. After having the bye, Mosgiel is on 14 points from six games.
