Earthquake shakes Fiordland, felt in Queenstown

An earthquake registering 4.8 on the Richter scale has rocked the lower South Island this morning.

GNS Science said the quake happened at 11.29am and was centred 50km southwest of Milford Sound, at a depth of 83km.

There are reports it was felt in Queenstown.
