International downhill stars will be flying in Queenstown this Sunday.

Coronet Peak’s hosting the second race of the Mountain Bike New Zealand Downhill Series, which serves as a world cup qualifying event for under-19 and elite category riders — 180 athletes are expected on the start line.

Athletes on the start line include Ireland’s Ronan Dunne, the current UCI Mountain Bike Downhill World Cup holder, and the UK’s Bernard Kerr, a former European Junior World Cup winner.

Local talent include the ‘Meek Boyz’ — brothers Toby and Rory Meek — and Wānaka’s Kalani Muirhead, 21.

Coronet summer ops manager Sam Stafford-Bush says the world-class talent on display will be a spectacle for spectators.

"People can make the most out of it by riding the gondola to get the best view of the action."

The action goes from 8am till 4pm on Sunday.
