A Queenstown man who gave a bar manager a "dead leg" after being refused more drinks has dodged a conviction.
Police say Evans pushed over a chair when he was refused service because of his level of intoxication. The chair struck the bar manager’s leg.
Evans was not happy when he was arrested, assuring police "nothing actually happened".
"We were just having a normal night and then you guys are blaming me for something I didn’t even do".
However, he admitted the charge after receiving a sentencing indication from Judge Russell Walker last year.
He was told he would be discharged without conviction if he completed four sessions of alcohol and anger management counselling and paid the victim $200 reparation for emotional harm.
At Evans’ sentencing in the Queenstown District Court this week, counsel Bryony Shackell confirmed he had completed three sessions, with another visit to the counsellor actually being an induction.
Noting the police had given him a formal warning on Sunday for going to licensed premises — breaching a bail condition — Judge Walker urged Evans to be careful with his anger and drinking issues.
