A garden purpose-built for a Clyde couple by friends and neighbours will be the venue for a sad occasion on Saturday.

Adrian and Sharon Falconer's residential section was developed during a weekend working bee last November to provide the couple with some enjoyment and relaxation during the time they had left together.

Mr Falconer (46) was diagnosed with terminal cancer and died at Dunstan Hospital in Clyde on Monday.

Mrs Falconer said the funeral service would be held at their home, so Mr Falconer could be in the place he loved.

Friends of the Falconers, Clyde couple Bob and Nicky Lines, organised the landscaping project, which involved volunteered time, skills, materials and equipment from friends, Clyde residents, family members and local business owners.

The Falconers' 1000sq m section had been left undeveloped partly because of Mr Falconer's ill health, and they were overwhelmed when it was transformed into the outdoor area of their dreams.

The couple moved to Clyde about four years ago.

Originally from Mosgiel, they bought their Clyde section with intentions of building a holiday home, but decided to settle permanently instead.

Mr Falconer's funeral will be held on Saturday.
