Police are still appealing for information about missing Nelson man Trevor Sigglekow but now believe he may be travelling from Middlemarch back towards Nelson.
Mr Sigglekow (76) was reported overdue around 8:45am today.
In a statement late this morning police initially said he was believed to be travelling to Middlemarch from Nelson and that he might be in the Canterbury area.
Mr Sigglekow is described as an elderly Caucasian male.
A police spokeswoman later contacted the Otago Daily Times this afternoon and said police still wished to locate Mr Sigglekow, to ensure he was safe and well.
But police now believed he may have earlier reached Middlemarch, and could now be travelling back towards Nelson.
"We definitely want to find him and make sure that he is safe and well,'' the spokeswoman said.
Police were still making inquiries to clarify further details about his travel - "that's what we're trying to figure out, if he did get to Middlemarch''.
But it now appeared that he had been most recently travelling from Middlemarch, rather than towards it.
It was still unclear where he was, and it was unclear if he was in Canterbury, she said.
Anyone who has seen Mr Sigglekow, or his vehicle - a silver 2008 Toyota Hilux, registration EKF816 - is urged to contact Christchurch Police on 03 363 7400.
