HMNZS Canterbury docked at the T/U sheds in Dunedin from Bluff yesterday morning, following a two-week subantarctic deployment where government agencies carried out essential work on the Auckland Islands (Maungahuka) and Campbell Island (Moutere Ihupuku).

The Royal New Zealand Navy vessel supported staff from the Department of Conservation, MetService, representatives from Ngai Tahu and members of the 2025 Sir Peter Blake Expedition to resupply the remote locations, support scientific research, and assist conservation efforts on both sets of islands.

A New Zealand Defence Force spokesman said the multi-role vessel was in Dunedin for a "replenishment stop".

"It’s also an opportunity for the crew to have a well-deserved break ashore and see the sights of Dunedin, which for some will include watching the Highlanders versus the Hurricanes rugby match."

Canterbury will sail for its home port of Devonport Naval Base on Monday.
