The Dunedin Dream Brokerage has launched a new initiative to fund collaborative art projects to get "Off The Ground".

Co-ordinated by local artist and project broker Charlotte Parallel, Off The Ground aims to support projects that activate local places, celebrate Dunedin’s diverse community groups and businesses and enhance urban spaces and the natural environment.

"There may be projects that got stopped in their tracks this year, due to Covid-19, and just need that final push," Parallel said.

Off The Ground will fund projects that complete, revive and share work that has been suppressed by the pandemic.

Partially developed projects are eligible, and submissions do not need to be new works, although new projects are also welcome.

"Our goal is to breathe life (and joy) back into communities that were robbed of realising their project by the outbreak of Covid-19," she said.

Guided by the Dunedin Dream Brokerage’s kaupapa of engaging with place, Off The Ground would work to the location, from windows to wetlands and everything in between, Parallel said.

Presentations can be delivered in any medium or media, including temporal practices such as performance and sound art.

Projects could use vacant retail space within Otepoti Dunedin city boundaries but may also extend into public space and the environment.

"We are pushing out slightly beyond the brokerage’s usual way of working, and it will be great to work with people in their communities," she said.

Proposals for Off The Ground projects must be submitted by January 18, and the projects will be delivered from February to April.
