Fairfield Community Hall buzzed with excitement on Sunday as Pakistani wedding customs were shared in a day of entertainment.

A multicultural wedding festival, hosted by the Pakistan Association of Otago, aimed to showcase a diverse range of activities and rituals that couples and families participated in during traditional weddings.

Co-organiser Humara Fiaz explained a Pakistani wedding typically spanned several days, encompassing a range of observances involving the entire community.

Sunday’s event highlighted some of those rituals, including traditional music and dance, culminating in a grand wedding procession.

It also provided an opportunity to celebrate the diverse cultures in Dunedin.

Japanese-inspired drumming ensemble O-Taiko delivered a vibrant performance, and Kadodo Music entertained the guests with rhythmic offerings and dance.

Representatives from the Dunedin Senior Chinese Association were present, demonstrating the breadth of cultural groups that call Dunedin home.

Children also enjoyed a day of fun, including magic shows and face painting.
