The Otago badminton player made a clean sweep of the singles, doubles and mixed doubles titles at the Otago Open at the weekend.
Alexander, who went into the event as one of the top two seeds in the men’s singles, went through the tournament unbeaten after his 12 games.
Alexander, who had been a semifinalist in the singles at the past two Otago Open tournaments, defeated Otago team-mate Jake Dickson to win the men’s singles titles.
Dickson won the first set 24-22 — requiring extra points past the set — but Alexander bounced back to win the last two sets 21-16 and 21-17 respectively.
Alexander then joined Justin Ho to overcome Dickson and John Morahan (Canterbury) to win the men’s doubles, and combined with Southland-Otago representative Claudia Smith to win the mixed doubles.
Otago athletes dominated their home tournament, which also doubled as the South Island championships.
Smith also collected the women’s doubles title with Amy Su.
They beat Otago pair Lucy Tomsen and Pingkan Polak, who were aiming for their seventh doubles title in eight years.
Canterbury representative Xiyu Xiao won the women’s singles after beating Smith, who had a great tournament, in the final.
