Thunder, Wild lose

The Dunedin Thunder women fought hard in their opening national women’s league game, but eventually fell 8-2 to Canterbury in Dunedin on Saturday.

The Thunder held strong through the opening two periods with goals to Kate Vernal and Camryn Linton. But Canterbury added four goals in the final period to seal the game. They met each other again late yesterday.

Wakatipu Wild lost twice to defending champions Auckland Steel in Queenstown. They lost 6-2 on Friday evening and a narrow 1-0 loss on Saturday.
