Two Otago schools could meet in the South Island secondary schools final today.
St Hilda's Collegiate and Columba College advanced to the top four of the tournament yesterday.
They play their semifinals in Christchurch at 9.40am today, with the final to be played at 3.30pm.
Defending champion St Hilda's has been in top form and is set to play St Margaret's College in the semifinals.
It crushed fellow Dunedin school Taieri College 44-12 yesterday morning, before beating Rangiora High School 42-30 in the afternoon.
St Margaret's will pose its toughest challenge yet, a team that has proven hard to score against.
It conceded just 62 goals in its three second-round games - the least of any team - while St Hilda's has scored 128, second only to Columba's 129.
Columba has bounced back well after dropping a game early in the tournament.
It beat Nelson Girls' College 39-31 yesterday morning, before edging Ashburton College 33-32 in what was essentially a quarterfinal.
St Andrew's College, which has had narrow wins over four Otago opponents, will be its semifinal opponent.
One of the those narrow wins came against Waitaki Girls' High School, which will play off for the fifth to eighth placings.
The Oamaru school went down 36-33 to St Andrew's, although claimed a resounding 45-28 win over Verdon College.
It will play Ashburton College in its playoff match.
After being crushed by St Hilda's, Taieri College got its tournament back on track to also qualify for the fifth to eighth playoffs.
It claimed an impressive 36-23 win over Christchurch Girls' High School and will face Southland Girls' this morning.
