Two of Dunedin’s brightest prospects will be pushing Southern Steel players all the way.
Southern Blast team-mates attacker Grace Southby and defender Holly McRae have been named as the Steel training partners ahead of the ANZ Premiership season.
Southby returns for her second stint in the role after making her Steel debut as an injury replacement last season.
McRae earned her maiden call-up after an impressive 2024 National Netball League, where she was named most improved player.
Southby, 21, who has been part of the Blast for the past three seasons, was excited to test herself again.
"I have been working hard over the summer, so I’m keen to bring enthusiasm and help play my part in building the team connections.
"I’m looking forward to learning as much as I can from the players and coaches around me, to grow my skill set and challenge myself, continuing to evolve my game. I want to be able to put myself in a good position so, if I’m required, I’m ready to go at the next level."
McRae, 19, who was a member of the Columba College side that won the South Island secondary schools title in 2023, was excited to make the step up.
‘‘I’m super excited to be a Steel training partner. It’s such an amazing opportunity to be able to work alongside such a skilled and determined team," McRae said.
Steel coach Wendy Frew knew Southby and McRae’s potential and had high expectations of what they could bring to the environment.
