Short turnaround for champion Steel

It will be a short break for the Southern Steel this year.

The side is only days removed from its 2018 season, but it has only two and a-half months before preparations for next season
begin.

The next ANZ Premiership season is scheduled to start in February, due to the World Cup beginning in July.

That is a six-month turnaround between seasons, shortened by this season not starting until May due to the Commonwealth Games.

The only edition of the ANZ Premiership unaffected by international play was the inaugural competition in 2017. Then it started on the last weekend of March and finished in the last week of June.

Signings for next season are expected to be announced over the coming weeks.

Players are usually only contracted for a year at a time in netball, although the Steel has proven adept at retaining its players in recent years.

The most notable hole to fill will be in the midcourt, due to the retirement of captain Wendy Frew.
