The classy wing attack sat out the inaugural season to start a family with husband Jeff Wilson.
The couple have an 11-month-old boy, Harper, and have rented a home in Invercargill for the duration of the season.
The 29-year-old is fizzing to be back on court but has ruled out making an international comeback soon.
"To be a Silver Fern takes another whole level of commitment and a lot of sacrifices," Wilson said.
"It's a lot more time away from home and at the moment I'm not prepared to open myself up to that.
"And I don't even know if I'd be good enough anyway.
"I just want to concentrate on helping the Steel win the ANZ Championship."
Wilson is not the only new mother in the Steel squad.
Shooter Donna Wilkins also returns.
She kept her hand in last season, watching the competition closely from the sidelines as the Steel's assistant coach.
But with the birth of her son, Cooper, Wilkins has decided to don a bib again.
Unfortunately, she broke her wrist during the pre-season tournament in Queenstown.
Wilkins trained with the side last Thursday but might struggle to be fit for the Steel's opening game against the Central Pulse in Invercargill on Saturday.
It is a blow for the team.
Wilson and Wilkins formed one of the best wing attack-shooter combinations in the game "We can't dwell on it and have had to carry on," Wilson said.
"She is doing everything she can to get back as quick as she can.
"We're lucky we've got a really strong attacking end."
Daneka Wipiiti will need to step up if Wilkins is unavailable.
Back-up shooter Julianna Naoupu played well when she had opportunities last season, and new signing Leah Shoard has fitted in well, Wilson said.
Despite the injury to Wilkins, Wilson was pleased with the Steel's pre-season.
"We've had heaps of game time which I think is the most important thing.
"We've built a lot of confidence by going to Sydney [for a pre-season tournament] because, even though we did not win, we were in a position to win every one of those matches against those Australian teams."
Finding a way to win in Australia is going to be the key for the Steel to do well.
No New Zealand team managed to win over the Tasman last season.
But Wilson is confident the Steel will be better prepared.
"We'd be exceptionally disappointed if we did not make the top four because we have got the personnel to do well."
