Netball New Zealand yesterday confirmed the test between the Silver Ferns and the Australian Diamonds on September 15 will be played in the Stadium Southland Velodrome on September 15.
The game was initially slated for Stadium Southland but, with the expected completion date of the rebuild pushed back to October, NNZ was forced to consider a location change.
However, NNZ chief executive Raelene Castle said support from the Invercargill Licensing Trust and the Invercargill City Council ensured the match was retained in Invercargill.
''Obviously, it was disappointing for Stadium Southland that they can't use this Constellation Cup test match to officially open their excellent new venue,'' Castle said.
''It is greatly appreciated by NNZ that the ILT and the Invercargill City Council have partnered with us to ensure Invercargill still has the opportunity to host this event.''
The city last hosted a New Zealand-Australia test in 2009.
Netball South chief executive Sue Clarke said she was relieved the event would be staged in Invercargill as planned.
''It is fantastic for Invercargill,'' she said.
''It is great that the test has been retained and that the community and the funders were able to get together to make it work.
''We've got our first Steel game and it is a sellout, so no doubt they'll be back for ther netball test.''
ILT sales and marketing manager Gary Muir agreed.
''Southland netball fans are known worldwide for their sporting passion and commitment and this is a prestigious event for our city,'' he said.
''We get to host the two best netball teams in the world and you can guarantee the support in the stands will match the calibre of players battling it out on court.''
The national championships, which were originally scheduled for Invercargill, have been shifted to Dunedin as previously reported.
