Jo Morrison and Alice Wells were notable winners at Tuesday night's Dunedin Netball prize giving.

The pair were awarded the most valuable contribution and outstanding leadership awards respectively.

Morrison's work in numerous areas of the sport was acknowledged, although particular emphasis was given to her work in the Dunedin development and representative programmes.

She had been key in ``masterminding'' the development programmes, which were having a positive impact on the centre's young players.

Wells was praised after coaching Phys Ed A to its first premier A club title in 13 years.

Her development of strong players and great culture over the past six years has been key to that. The highly-esteemed manner in which her players speak about her was noted as a key indicator of her leadership and positive influence.

The third special award, personality of the year, went to Rua Hagan. Alongside her contribution of more than 30 years to the sport, Hagan's passion and generous attitude towards netball was noted.

Jono Bredin was the night's guest speaker and his 18-year domestic umpiring career was celebrated after officiating his last game in this year's ANZ Premiership final. He was given the umpire of the year award.

Another to excel in umpiring was Gracey Farquharson. The 21-year-old won the best senior umpire award after reaching the New Zealand High Performance level and umpiring in the Beko League. Hailee Bird, Jade Stewart, Hilary Smith and Morgan Craig also received umpiring awards.

Stefanie Keoghan was awarded the contribution to coaching cup, while Jodi Brown won the contribution to representative coaching award.

Corinna Flawn won the progress on the bench award, while Christine Thomlinson claimed the bench official award of appreciation.

Each representative team presented awards. The most valuable A team players were Shinae Stanley (under-14), Emma McKay (under-15), Kaya Laban (under-17), Mara McCurdy (under-19) and Rhys Fitzgerald (men's).
