Winning a league championship is more of a marathon than a sprint and some dogged determination will be required as the Footballsouth leaders grind out results over the next few weeks.
And if the marathon analogy is correct, perhaps the famous runners' wall looms ahead as both Caversham and Dunedin Technical face three important games in the next nine days.
They each have two Footballsouth Premier League matches, as well as the head-on clash in the Chatham Cup on June 7.
Clearly a testing period looms ahead, when injuries or errors could sink either team's ambitions in the league and the cup, and both coaches, Caversham's Steve Fleming and Technical's Mike Fridge, admit their sides are still trying to achieve optimum performance.
However, both teams are undefeated in the league, the only blemish being when they played each other and drew 2-2 at Tonga Park.
To maintain parity, Technical will have to beat University in today's main game at the Caledonian Ground.
University sits in mid-table on nine points, and under coaches Luiz Uehara and Terry Parle has yet to achieve consistent results despite playing patterned football.
Caversham plays Grants Braes at Tonga Park, and while coach Al Laidler has made great progress this season, it is unlikely that his side will contain Caversham for 90 minutes.
At Ellis Park, Roslyn-Wakari will try to repeat its good form of last week against Mosgiel, which is only two points behind in fourth place.
Roslyn and Mosgiel have identical statistics of 15 goals for and 12 against after seven matches, which suggests it will be an even contest.
Queenstown hosts Northern in Central Otago, with Rovers undefeated for three weeks and leading the Magpies by three points on the table.
At Sunnyvale, cellar dwellers Green Island and the Spirit desperately need to earn competition points, with the added threat of the losing side being cast adrift at the bottom of the competition.
All FPL games kick off at 2.45pm.
