But bragging rights over her sister, a clean-sheet finish and being the only side to topple Waterside Karori, who have booked their spot in the National League final?
That is what you call a special day out.
The Southern United captain was at her very best in her team’s 2-0 win over Waterside Karori at Logan Park Turf yesterday.
It is a feat she will have no problem reminding her sister, former Football Fern and Waterside captain Sarah, about.
"It’s always fun," Morton said when asked about coming up against her sister.
"She’s a great player, so you’ve always got to watch out for her, but there’s a lot of chat on the field, a lot of laughing.
"Southern will take the bragging rights."
It was one of Southern’s best performances of the season and brought a close to their season, where they finished seventh with three wins, two draws and four losses.
"We’ve had ups, we’ve had downs, but we showcased what we can do out there and I think the girls had lots of fun.
"It’s a good way to end the season, really."
Southern were fearless as they knew they had nothing to lose and attacked everything across the park.
Shontelle Smith, who was superb for Southern all afternoon, scored a brace, and took little time to find the first.
Southern’s first chance came 30 seconds in when Georgia Keen fired from the right, but Waterside goalkeeper Annie Foote made a brilliant save.
Foote was challenged all game, especially in the first half, with Southern constantly firing in chances.
They were rewarded in the ninth minute.
Southern goalkeeper Lauren Paterson punted the ball downfield and Georgia Keen flicked it on with a good header.
Smith raced after it and as Foote came out high out of her goal, Smith chipped the ball from just outside of the box to land in the back of the goal.
It gave Southern the lead — but Smith was not done yet.
Just before the half-hour mark, she lined up to take a left corner that curled through the mess and into the goal.
The home side held a the lead at halftime and picked up where they left off in the second half.
Southern were unlucky not to come away with more points in the second half.
They pressed hard throughout the game, hardly giving Waterside a sniff at goal and kept them camped firmly in their half.
It was not the result Waterside will have been after, snapping their unbeaten run on the eve of the final.
Southern United youth players Megan Waayer, Freya Des Fountaine and Sophia Body, who would all be the future of the team, also got a run at the end, , Morton said.
Auckland United remain unbeaten as they head to the final this weekend.
They beat Phoenix Reserves 3-0, Western Springs finished with a 3-0 win against Canterbury United Pride, West Coast Rangers had a 2-1 win against Eastern Suburbs and Wellington United thumped Central 6-0.
