The Poms have won it.

The Cricket World Cup began on Thursday night (New Zealand time) and co-host England posted an impressive win against South Africa.

They are not getting too carried away about the result in the Motherland - yeah right.

New Zealand born all-rounder Ben Stokes smashed 89, took a couple of wickets and pulled off the greatest catch in the history of the game, according to some delirious sections of the media.

It was an eight out of 10. He got out of position and had to improvise. Decent effort but he is no Daniel ``Air'' Vettori.

England's domination of the headlines is set to end tonight, thankfully.

The Black Caps start their campaign against Sri Lanka on a green top in Cardiff.

Pencil in Trent Boult for a five-wicket bag and ink in the Black Caps for a win - the Sri Lankans have been their bunnies of late.

First-choice wicketkeeper Tom Latham is cautiously optimistic he will be fit, despite fracturing a bone in his finger last month.

If he is ruled out, his understudy, Tom Blundell, is fresh from clouting a century against the West Indies.

That warm-up match did not go so well for the Black Caps.

They were routed by 91 runs after conceding 421 - yes, 421. Matt Henry, explain please.

But Kane Williamson's men did beat India by six wickets in an earlier warm-up game, so they have form.

Tonight's match begins at 9.30. The Cup is coming home.
