Albion 150/6 beat University-Grange 127 by 23 runs

Luke Georgeson would doubtless have preferred to be opening the batting for the Volts but he showed his chops as a limited-overs bowler at Tonga Park.

Georgeson, waiting on the fringes of the Otago squad for more opportunities, claimed a rare T20 five-wicket bag to run through University-Grange.

He grabbed five for 15 off 3.4 overs as the Spartans’ effort at chasing 151 for victory over Albion came up well short.

Georgeson made hay in the final over of the chase, claiming three wickets in four balls.

James Brown (three for 19) and Pat Arnold (two for 19) also bowled well for Albion.

Venkat Kotte top-scored for University-Grange with 33, while Lahiru Vimukthi had a late crack with an unbeaten 23 off 14 balls.

Earlier, Albion got enough contributors to post a respectable tally after electing to bat.

Lucky Singh led the way with 52 off 50, and Josh Tasman-Jones belted a couple of sixes in his 35 off 32.

Jack Ussher was the pick of the University-Grange bowlers with three for 26.

CDK 160/6 lost to North East Valley 161/5 by five wickets

Volts top-order batter Thorn Parkes led a match-winning partnership at Bishopscourt.

Chasing 161 for victory, North East Valley reached the target with 10 balls to spare.

Parkes played a brutal hand with an unbeaten 71 off just 49 balls, smiting four fours and four sixes.

He added 115 for the second wicket with opener Jamie Grassi, who bashed 55 off 41 balls and also hit four fours and the same number of sixes.

Xavier Chisholm (52 off 38, including three fours and three sixes) and Mason Gain (21 off 17) had earlier given CDK a promising start.

The Demon Dogs then pushed on through Henry Scott (30 not out off 25 balls) and Vinay Chandrappa (25 off 18), but ended probably 20 runs short.

Gus Holt took two for 25 for North East Valley.

Green Island 151/4 beat Taieri 84 by 67 runs

The Battle of the Saddle turned into something of a damp squib.

Green Island proved far too strong as they posted a competitive total at Sunnyvale before tearing Taieri to shreds in 19.5 overs.

All six Swamprat batters got moderate starts.

Jack Mockford (33 not out off 28 balls) and Regan Cairns (26 not out off 13) provided the late impetus after Elliot Santner (27), Brad Kneebone (20), Josh Kellett (19) and Joel Meade (15) had set the platform.

Taieri’s chase was on the grim side.

Tom Dempster did his best, top-scoring with 29 off 27, but no other batter reached double figures.

Hamish Wilson (three for nine off 3.5 overs), Meade (two for eight) and Daniel Lawrence (two for 17) did the damage for Green Island.
