Volts gloveman Derek de Boorder top-scored for the Bracewell XI with 47 from 41 deliveries to help his side post 185 for five.
It was not enough, however, with Neil Broom smashing 78 from 48 deliveries to help the McCullum XI secure the bragging rights.
Brad Wilson also made a big contribution, swatting 55 from 33 deliveries. Both batsmen retired out to give others an opportunity to bat.
Otago captain Nathan McCullum grabbed that chance and crashed 25 from 10 deliveries. His side reached 200 for seven from its 20 overs.
There were a couple of new names to feature as well. Namibia international Christi Viljoen scored 41 from 29 for the Bracewell XI and his team-mate Geordie Scott made the most of the trial game, thrashing 33 from 17.
Scott has been in tremendous form for Kaikorai in club cricket and struck the ball nicely towards the latter part of his innings.
Seamer Warren Barnes bowled with good pace and picked up two wickets for the McCullum XI. He was expensive, conceding 57 runs, but has a nice action and looks a promising signing for Otago.
Sam Wells also picked up a couple of wickets and Green Island stalwart Dion Lobb grabbed two wickets for the Bracewell XI.
Bracewell XI 185 for five (Derek de Boorder 47, Christi Viljoen 41, Geordie Scott 33, Sam Wells 33 for two) McCullum XI 200 for seven (Neil Broom 78 retired out, Brad Wilson 55 retired out, Dion Lobb two for 44).
