Taieri 245 beat Green Island 158
Taieri all-rounder Ruben Clinton completed a rare feat to drag his side through to a comfortable 87-run win over Green Island in a Dunedin premier one-day game at Brooklands Park on Saturday.
The fringe Otago Volt clouted 101 from 103 balls to help his side post a challenging 245. Then he nabbed six for 19 with his right-arm tweakers to complete a rare century and five-wicket bag double. Green Island were rolled for 158.
It has been quite a summer for Clinton. The 26-year-old made his debut for the Volts this season and continues to push for further opportunities.
The left-hander is the leading scorer (463 runs at 46.3) in the Dunedin premier grade and has rocketed up the list of leading wicket-takers. He has 21 wickets at 7.38.
Clinton was not the only Taieri player to shine. Ollie Shore chipped in with 42 runs and took two for 27.
For Green Island, Elliot Santner top-scored with 62 and Daniel Lawrence took three for three for 37 and added 32 with the bat.
University-Grange 190 beat North East Valley 179
University-Grange held on to edge North East Valley by 11 runs in a tense encounter at Logan Park.
Grange slumped to 35 for five before Zac Cumming (50) and Angus Henry (63) resurrected the innings with a 78-run stand.
Jack Ussher’s knock of 20 from No 10 proved crucial.
The tally of 190 was decent.
Travis Muller and Hunter Kindley nabbed three wickets apiece.
Kindley played a key role with bat for the Swans as well. He top-scored with a patient 65 and Sebastian Lauderdale-Smith (25) and Muller (22) made useful cameos.
But they lost regular wickets and struggled to build a meaty partnership.
Jacob Cumming starred with the ball for University-Grange. He took four for 23.
Albion 153 lost to CDK 156/8
CDK pair Nick Tapper and Jack Wright teamed up to dismiss Albion for 153 at Tonga Park.
The Eagles struggled to put together partnerships.
Joshua Olliver scored 25 at the top and Connor Macleod added 32.
But the ball dominated the bat. Wright took three for 29 and Tapper claimed four for 26.
Tommy Clout made sure the chase was not easy for CDK. He took three for 43 and James Brown grabbed two for 17. But Albion did not have enough on the board.
Tapper whacked 52 from 56 balls and Mason Gain chipped in with 27. Ishaan Silva (seven not out) and Harry Sixton (eight not out) secured a two-wicket win in the 34th over.
