Otago strike bowler Neil Wagner has found some midwinter form with a five-wicket bag in a warm-up twenty20 match in Tauranga yesterday.

The Volts started their pre-paration for next month's Champions League in India with a 10-wicket win against a New Zealand-Northern Dis-tricts combined team.

Wagner took five for 34 from his allotment of four overs. He picked up the key wicket of Peter Fulton and ripped through the lower order to help restrict the opposition to 107 for eight.

Spinner Nick Beard took one for nine from three overs and James Neesham produced a tidy spell, taking one for 14 from four overs.

Brad Wilson top-scored for the composite side with 22.

Otago made short work of the chase as Neil Broom smashed 41 from 29 deliveries and Sam Wells cut loose with 61 from 36 deliveries. Otago speedster James McMillan had a bowl for the combined team.

Volts coach Vaughn Johnson was content with his side's efforts.

''The whole day has been good,'' he said.

''We had a good net session in the morning. Generally, the boys bowled well ... and I thought Broom and Wells played particularly well.

"They met our target from the first five overs which set us up to win the game quite easily.''

The teams will play one twenty20 game for the next four days.
