Five players from the region have been selected for the various White Ferns squads.
The White Ferns will play three ODIs followed by three T20s against Sri Lanka next month.
Otago veteran Suzie Bates, who led the White Ferns from 2011 to 2018, will be the interim captain for the series in lieu of Sophie Devine, who is taking a wellbeing break.
Bates will be joined in the team by Sparks offspinner Eden Carson, who is a regular in the national squad.
All-rounder Hayley Jensen returns to the national lineup for the first time since 2023. She had been sidelined with injury.
Opener Bella James gets another opportunity after impressing during December’s Rose Bowl series.
And Otago wicketkeeper-batter Polly Inglis receives her second call-up to an international squad following her inclusion in last year’s ODI squad to India.
She has been named in the ODI squad only and will be on her international debut.
The fab five have all featured strongly for Otago this season. The Sparks were beaten in the final of the Super Smash by Wellington, but have another shot at glory in Dunedin this weekend when they host Auckland in the final of the Hallyburton Johnstone Shield.
Inglis is one of several potential debutants named in the squads.
Eighteen-year-old Central Hinds all-rounder Emma McLeod, Canterbury Magicians batter Izzy Sharp, 20, and Auckland Hearts seamer Bree Illing, 21, have earned their maiden selections.
McLeod has been picked fresh off a strong list A campaign for the Hinds, where she is among the top run-scorers in the competition.
Left-arm seamer Illing had a breakout season for Auckland. She is the third-top wicket-taker in the HBJ Shield and bowled tightly during the Super Smash campaign.
Georgia Plimmer is set to make her return to international cricket after sustaining a bone stress fracture in her hip which has kept her sidelined since November.
Melie Kerr is unavailable for the series due to her Women’s Premier League commitments with the Mumbai Indians, as the revised tournament dates coincided with the series.
White Ferns coach Ben Sawyer said the new faces were talented prospects.
"Emma, Bree and Izzy have been identified ... as players who have the desired competencies and skillsets to be effective in international cricket," he said.
Sawyer stressed the importance of utilising the series to gain experience against spin with an eye to the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup in India.
"Sri Lanka’s a tough opposition with a number of world-class spinners.
"Facing their spin unit is always a challenge but it will be great prep for us ahead of the World Cup."
Sawyer said he expected all players in the squad to get an opportunity.
