Otago finished a distant second in its match against a New Zealand XI in Tauranga yesterday as it continues its warm-up for the Champions League competition.
Batting first, the Volts experimented with their batting order and it did not pay off. They failed to fire at all and were all out for 75 in the 17th over.
Michael Bracewell top-scored with 21. Only two others players got into double figures, with Mark Craig and Nick Beard both getting 10.
The wickets were shared around for the opposition.
Neil Wagner opened the batting for Otago with Sam Wells, and scored 9, while Jimmy Neesham batted at No 4 and managed just 3.
In reply, the New Zealand XI made no race of chasing down the target, and it was decided the side would bat the entire 20 overs.
Peter Fulton took the attack to the bowlers and ended with an unbeaten 99, off 60 balls, as his side tallied 206 for two off its 20 overs.
Fulton hit 64 of his runs in boundaries. Anton Devcich combined with Fulton in a 99-run opening stand, Devcich making 59.
Otago bowlers Beard, Neesham and James McMillan each got a wicket.
The teams play a fifth and final time today.
