The first test between the West Indies and New Zealand will head into the last day after a strong rearguard action by the West Indies today.

New Zealand could only manage to take four wickets throughout the day on a wicket which offered little for the bowlers and the West Indies batters were disciplined and kept the score ticking over. At the end the West Indies were 47 runs ahead with four wickets left.

They ended the day on 443/6.

Heading the West Indies charge was Darren Bravo, who scored his maiden double century, finishing unbeaten on 210.

He got good support from the likes of captain Darren Sammy, who was unbeaten on 44 at the end, while Narsingh Deonarine and Denesh Randin also chipped in.

The wickets were shared around to the New Zealand bowlers, who at times felt the fell effects of a baking Dunedin sun.

The home side did not help itself by dropping three chances throughout the day.
