Invercargill Police have arrested a 32-year-old woman and charged her with attempted murder in relation to the injuries sustained by a 3-week-old baby in the city last week.
The arrested woman appeared this afternoon in the Invercargill District Court and was remanded in custody for a psychiatric report.
Name suppression was granted.
The baby was rushed to hospital after being injured at her Invercargill home early on Monday last week.
She is recovering at Auckland's Starship Hospital.
Police have said the baby's parents were at home at the time of the incident about 5.30am.
Several neighbours reported hearing noises from the property early on Monday before emergency services were called to the baby's home.
