An earthquake registering 4.8 on the Richter scale rocked the lower South Island yesterday morning.
GNS Science said the quake happened about 11.30am and was centred 50km southwest of Milford Sound, at a depth of 83km.
There were reports it was felt as far away as Dunedin. — APL
