Child injured by cow

A toddler was taken to hospital on Saturday after being injured by a cow in West Otago.

The incident occurred in the farming community of Crookston about 11.15am on Saturday.

An ambulance was called to a private residence, about halfway between Tapanui and Raes Junction, a St John spokesman said.

The child, who is aged under 3, sustained moderate injuries as a result of an incident with a cow, he said.

The child was taken to the Tapanui Medical Centre before being transported by helicopter to Dunedin Hospital.

The spokesman would not provide further details about the child's injuries or how they were caused.

No other emergency services were required.
