Emergency services were alerted to the blaze at 11.30am, following reports a domestic garage was on fire in Clydevale Rd, near the intersection with Mount Mistake Rd, about 8km north of Clinton.
Clinton and Clutha Valley brigades were first on the scene, and reported the garage at the property was "well involved", a Fire and Emergency New Zealand (Fenz) spokesman said.
Fire was spreading from the garage into the adjoining home’s roof cavity when firefighters arrived, who called Pukerau, Gore and Waiwera South brigades for help.
The fire was contained before it could engulf the home and it was fully extinguished safely without further danger.
Fenz said a fire scene investigator was at the site yesterday afternoon, although the incident was not believed to be suspicious.
