Four people were arrested following a single-car crash, which led to the armed offenders squad being deployed on State Highway 1, near Clinton, in South Otago, yesterday.
A police spokeswoman said they were called to the single vehicle crash about 1.15pm.
The two people in the vehicle had left the scene in an alleged stolen vehicle before police arrived.
Police remained in the area and were continuing to make inquires to locate the people involved.
The armed offenders squad was deployed as a precaution.
The spokeswoman later said that four people were arrested in relation to the incident.
The armed offenders squad stopped the vehicle in the Waihola township shortly after 3.30pm.
Three men and a woman would appear in the Dunedin District Court today on a various charges relation to the incident, she said.
Police inquiries into the incident are continuing.
