Inner Wheel Balclutha celebrated 50 years’ servicing the Clutha district with some more service last month.

Women of the Rotary affiliate Inner Wheel New Zealand Lower South Island Balclutha District NZ298 club kept the sausages sizzling for about 80 volunteers at the Toot4Tucker food drive on November 28.

Members also held a celebratory presentation dinner where long-serving member Pam Henderson said the group began with 32 members.

"It started off as a wives of Rotarians group, then slowly it became sisters and daughters of Rotarians, too.

"We have always provided assistance to our community, whether it’s the Nippers junior life-savers at Kaka Point Surf Club, training at St John, creating help-packs for the hospital and much more.

"We have enjoyed being in this group because we have made great friendships and given plenty to the community."

Inner Wheel itself celebrated 100 years this year.

The group’s six members are looking for newcomers to keep their service going past the 50-year milestone.
