State Highway 8 has now reopened after a serious crash.
The single vehicle crash on the Manuka Gorge Highway near Burma Road was reported just after 6pm.
One person has been seriously injured.
The road was closed for a time, and motorists were asked to avoid the area and expect delays.
The Serious Crash Unit was also in attendance, a police spokesperson said.
