Wanaka drink-driver gets car stuck on traffic island

A driver who recorded a breath-alcohol reading more than two and a-half times over the legal limit was found stuck in his car on a traffic island in Wanaka, yesterday.

Senior Sergeant Allan Grindell said the 22-year-old man recorded a breath-alcohol reading of 1006mcg when he was found in his car at 3am on Plantation Rd.

A police patrol was informed a vehicle was "stuck sideways on a traffic island", Snr Sgt Grindell said.

When the police arrived the man was found behind the wheel of the car.

He is to appear in the Queenstown District Court next week to face charges.
