NZSki lifts prices of some season passes

Coronet Peak, the Remarkables and Mt Hutt operator NZSki has increased some of the prices of its "early bird" season passes which go on sale today, soon after Treble Area announced it was increasing prices across the board.

The Queenstown pass, for Coronet Peak and the Remarkables, will cost an adult $889, and youths (7-17 years) and seniors 65-74 years) both $589.

The pass cost adults $799 last year and $699 in 2009, while youths and seniors paid $499 last year.

The Remarkables pass will cost $499 for an adult, $399 for a student and $299 for youths and seniors, from today.

The pass for adults remains unchanged from last year, following the $50 jump in 2010 on the 2009 price, the year the pass was introduced.

The pass cost $349 for students and $249 for youths and seniors, in 2010.

The NZSki pass, covering all three mountains, will cost adults $999 and youths and seniors $699, the same as last year.

The adult pass jumped $100 in 2009.

In the early bird announcement released yesterday, NZSki sales and marketing manager Craig Douglas said there had been "slight" price increases and NZSki had worked to keep them to a minimum.

"Providing and developing world-class ski facilities doesn't come cheap and the reality is that we've had to make some changes to the pricing structure this year," Mr Douglas said.

"Despite the slight increase in cost, passes remain exceptional value for money, particularly when considered in balance with the ongoing investment in mountain amenities."

This year, Queenstown early bird passes were only available to residents of Otago and Southland, or those who held a season pass last year, Mr Douglas said.

The early bird payment plan will return to enable customers to pay one-third of the cost when they sign up, and the other two-thirds over April and May.

Passes can be collected from the Queenstown Snow Centre from May 2, where proof of address or employment within Otago and Southland regions must be presented before the pass is issued.

All pass-holders, new and old, will need to sit for a new photo, whether collecting a new pass, or recharging an existing mypass.

All children aged 6 and under will receive a free day lift pass at Coronet Peak, while all children aged 10 and under will receive a free day lift pass at the Remarkables.

The first tracks add-on for Coronet Peak is available for $199.

The Queenstown Express Transport add-on costs $199 for the season.

The early bird offers are on sale until March 17, after which prices will increase to main season rate, the announcement said.

Coronet Peak is set to open on June 4, followed by Mt Hutt on June 11 and the Remarkables on June 18.
