A new chief executive has been appointed for NZSki, starting mid-season.

Paul Anderson, at present Christchurch City Council's general manager of corporate services, takes up the NZSki role at the start of August.

Current chief executive of six-years James Coddington previously announced he was to leave the company on May 24 but decided to stay on at least until Mr Anderson's arrival.

Mr Anderson has worked for more than five years at the council where he managed the funding strategies for earthquake response and recovery.

He is a chartered accountant whose employment history also includes finance and operational roles with organisations including Telecom New Zealand, NatWest GFM and the New Zealand Treasury.

A keen skier, he said he was ''hugely excited'' and impressed by the investment NZSki had made.

''I have a lot of passion for the ski industry, because apart from my personal love of skiing, the industry is one of New Zealand's most important attractions for domestic and international tourism.''

NZSki owns and operates Coronet Peak, which is scheduled to open on June 8, the Remarkables, scheduled to open on June 22 and Canterbury's Mt Hutt, scheduled for June 15.
