NZSki has employed Craig Douglas as general manager, sales and marketing.
He will be responsible for promoting three skifields - Coronet Peak, The Remarkables and Mt Hutt.
Mr Douglas (45) comes from a job as marketing vice-president for Fisher and Paykel.
He spent 14 years with the whiteware company, 12 of those based in Auckland, and brings with him experience in international commerce, brand management and product development.
He will move to Arrowtown with his family ahead of starting in the job on August 30.
"I am thrilled to have this opportunity. We had always planned to live in the Wakatipu.
It feels like home to us," said Mr Douglas, who grew up in Dunedin.
"This appointment means I can carry on my career and enjoy the special lifestyle of the region," he said.
He had been involved with the Queenstown Winter Festival years ago, promoting Kiwi lager at the festival when he was working in marketing and sales for DB.
Before joining Fisher and Paykel he gained a degree in agricultural science.
"The challenge in the new job would be to step across into a new industry and apply my commercial and corporate experience to skiing and the broader tourism industry."
NZSki chief executive James Coddington said that he was "delighted" with the appointment.
"I am very excited to work with someone who has international experience in building brands and working with a wide variety of industry channels," Mr Coddington said.
Mr Douglas replaces David Ovendale, who resigned from NZSki earlier this year after seven years in the job, citing "personal reasons".
