Queenstown and Arrowtown businesses are being encouraged to get into the "spirit of winter" by dressing their shop windows in an "Ice Age" theme, coinciding with the premiere of Ice Age 4: Continental Drift in Queenstown.

Queenstown Winter Festival director Simon Green said the movie would premiere at Reading Cinemas on June 23 and he hoped businesses would get into the theme and "help transform Queenstown into a true winter wonderland".

This year finalists would be photographed, with people able to vote online for their favourite window display. Public votes would count for 50% of the weighting with the judging panel's votes accounting for the remaining 50%.

The prize for best overall window display would be a heliski trip for eight people.

A $500 Caltex voucher will be awarded for both second place and people's choice.

The best "Ice Age" themed window would win the business four tickets to the Queenstown premiere, as well as a trip for two to Auckland to attend the New Zealand premiere of Taken 2 on October 14.
