Just over $1500 was raised for the families of the men who died in the Pike River Coal mine disaster from the fundraising concert held in Queenstown last week.

Co-organiser John Stapleton, of Revolver, said the total was down on the $8000 raised by public donations during the similar charitable open-air concert, on the Queenstown Village Green, in January.

"Maybe because it's close to Christmas. Maybe because it's an international town and visitors weren't as aware [of the Pike River Coal mine disaster] as Haiti."

Co-organiser Glen Balfour, Mediaworks creative director, also said the reason for the lower total could be because the public's budgets were tight during the festive season.
