Rosebank Four Square won a paper bid auction for a collaborative work made by members of Art South Otago.
Art South Otago created the work made up of 28 15cm square individual canvases painted in acrylic by 28 of its members. It took two weeks to complete the squares, before they were pieced together.
Art South Otago president Colleen Niovara-Dave said the group wanted to support the Neurological Foundation's $3 million fundraising project.
"It's such a wonderful cause, and it's lovely to have sold the work locally."
Rosebank Four Square owner Bruce Duncan said he was very pleased to have bought the work.
"Art South Otago have wonderful, talented artists and the painting is very unique."
He said he wanted to donate to the neurological unit at Dunedin Hospital as it was a great cause, benefiting many people from South Otago.
"Four Square's motto is always looking after locals. I was very keen for the art to stay locally in South Otago, where it is on display for everyone to enjoy."
The work is on display in the Balclutha store, near the dairy section, for anyone to view.
Neurosurgery fundraising project manager Irene Mosley said the fundraiser was a good boost for the cause.
"The passion and support for the campaign is just great. There's so many creative fundraisers."
Yesterday afternoon, the campaign had raised $2,614,409.
