On the beat: A reminder to lock your car

A thief has been targeting unlocked vehicles in Frankton, reports to Queenstown police suggest.

A torch and small items were taken from a vehicle parked on Wilmot Ave on Friday night. The glovebox of a vehicle parked on nearby Robertson St was reported to have been searched on Saturday about 5am, with nothing taken.

• A 24-year-old Queenstown man was arrested for allegedly drink-driving with a breath-alcohol level of 995mcg and failing to stop for police. He could face more charges. He was allegedly seen driving erratically on Athol St at 1.10am on Sunday.

• An Indian tourist allegedly had a breath-alcohol level of 588mcg when he was randomly stopped by police on Camp St on Saturday at 2am.

• An intoxicated Queenstown man was arrested for alleged wilful damage after a restaurant window was broken on Queenstown Mall on Saturday at 1.30am.

• A Millbrook resort golf cart found stuck between bollards on the historic Shotover Bridge on Saturday at 11am was recovered with minimal damage.

All those arrested are expected to appear in the Queenstown District Court today.

• Volunteer firefighters from the Glenorchy Rural Fire Brigade put out a vegetation fire near a green waste area, on Benmore Pl, on Saturday at 4.10pm.
