The festive season is near and police in Gore want people to make smart driving decisions.

Sergeant Chris Dunbar said people should plan ahead if they were going to be drinking, and be careful on the roads.

"There will be an increased presence of police over the Christmas and New Year period."

Roads were often busier at that time of the year.

"The last thing we want is to have to knock on people’s doors because [a relative’s] been drinking and something’s gone wrong."

People needed to make smart decisions with their alcohol consumption, Sgt Dunbar said.
