Police to have ‘zero tolerance’ for alcohol-induced behaviour

Gore police are once again calling for better decisions around alcohol and are taking a "zero tolerance" approach.

On Friday a 27-year-old man was arrested and charged with a breach of alcohol ban.

The incident occurred on Main St.Sergeant Chris Dunbar said police had no tolerance for this type of behaviour.

"We take any calls for anyone acting in a disorderly manner or in possession of alcohol around the main town boundary.

"There will be zero tolerance on it," Sgt Dunbar said.

The man was later released with a warning, he said.

On Sunday, a 20-year-old male was charged with excess breath alcohol and possession of cannabis.

He was stopped on State Highway 1 between Mataura and Edendale and recorded a breath alcohol reading of over 600mcg, Sgt Dunbar said.

"The man was stopped after being caught swerving between lanes.

"Police are heavily focused at the moment on seatbelts, phones and impaired drivers."

The man is due to appear in the Gore District Court today.
